Walk IN GYN Care HRT and menopause treatment in New York with personalized, physician-supervised hormone therapy and ongoing monitoring

HRT & Menopause FAQs — Walk IN GYN Care

Where can I get HRT for menopause in New York?

Walk IN GYN Care provides physician-supervised evaluation and treatment for perimenopause, menopause, and hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in New York. We offer both in-person and virtual GYN care, depending on your medical needs.

Our approach is not simply about prescribing hormones. We evaluate your symptoms, medical history, risk factors, baseline testing, and ongoing response to treatment.

What is required before starting HRT at Walk IN GYN Care?

Our HRT protocol generally includes:

  • A comprehensive initial consultation
  • Baseline pelvic ultrasound
  • Blood work, including hormone levels and kidney and liver function
  • Breast imaging within the previous year, when appropriate
  • Review of your medical, gynecologic, breast, and family history

Additional testing may be recommended based on your individual history and symptoms.

Why do I need blood work and an ultrasound for HRT?

At Walk IN GYN Care, we believe HRT should be personalized and monitored—not simply prescribed.

An ultrasound is needed to check your uterine lining and ensure there is no thickening or hyperplasia (which could indicate either risk of pre-cancer or cancer).

Blood work is needed to ensure you don’t have liver or kidney dysfunction, because normally functioning systems are required to break down hormones so toxic metabolites can leave the body.

Baseline testing helps your clinician better understand your overall health, establish a starting point, and determine an appropriate treatment plan.

These are part of the Walk IN GYN Care HRT safety protocol and may be individualized by your clinician.

How long do HRT blood test results take?

Some laboratory results may take approximately three weeks to return. Laboratory processing times are outside the control of Walk IN GYN Care.

We understand that patients want to feel better quickly, but we do not want to rush appropriate medical evaluation simply to prescribe hormones faster.

Do I need a mammogram or breast imaging before HRT?

For patients who require breast cancer screening, we generally request appropriate breast imaging performed within the previous 12 months as part of our HRT protocol.

Estrogen or Progesterone use in case of a latent breast cancer is a big NO-NO.

Your clinician will determine what imaging is appropriate based on your age, medical history, family history, breast cancer risk, and current screening recommendations.

How often do I need follow-up after starting HRT?

After starting HRT or making a significant change to your hormone regimen, we generally require a follow-up visit in approximately three months.

Once your treatment is stable, routine HRT follow-up is generally required every six months.

This allows us to evaluate symptom improvement, side effects, bleeding patterns, medication changes, and whether your HRT regimen remains appropriate.

Can I get HRT through telehealth in New York?

Yes. Walk IN GYN Care offers virtual GYN and menopause consultations for patients in New York when telehealth is medically appropriate.

However, HRT management may still require laboratory testing, imaging, ultrasound, or an in-person evaluation depending on your history and treatment plan.

Can I get estrogen or progesterone without completing the required follow-up?

HRT prescriptions and refills are part of ongoing medical care.

Patients receiving HRT through Walk IN GYN Care are expected to remain current with the testing, imaging, and follow-up recommended by their treating clinician. If you are overdue for required monitoring, additional refills may not be provided until the appropriate evaluation is completed.

Why does Walk IN GYN Care require regular HRT monitoring?

Because patient safety comes first.

Your symptoms, health risks, bleeding patterns, breast health, medications, and medical conditions can change over time. Regular follow-up allows us to continually determine whether your hormone regimen remains appropriate for you.

What if I don’t want to follow the Walk IN GYN Care HRT protocol?

We understand that different patients prefer different models of care.

However, patients choosing Walk IN GYN Care for HRT management must be willing to participate in the monitoring and follow-up recommended by their clinician.

If you prefer a different approach, you are welcome to seek HRT care from another qualified healthcare provider or online menopause/HRT platform.

We will not compromise our clinical safety protocols simply for convenience.

Does Walk IN GYN Care treat both perimenopause and menopause?

Yes. We evaluate and treat women experiencing symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause, including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep changes, vaginal dryness, painful intercourse, mood changes, brain fog, and other symptoms.

Treatment is individualized and may include systemic HRT, localized vaginal hormone therapy, non-hormonal treatments, lifestyle recommendations, or other options depending on your needs.

Is HRT covered by insurance?

This depends on your insurance policy. Some drugs, specifically the compounded ones may not be covered by your insurance. You can check our in-network insurances here.
We also offer affordable self-pay options to be seen by board certified GYN providers vs some unknown online chatbot.
